He’d tried redeeming himself before, and it hadn’t worked. It was always the same, Dad belittling him, Liam shoving him to one side. And it was the same here on this sodding island. The A-Team off on their missions, Charlie stuck at the kids’ table.
But things had been different. He’d kicked the drugs, he’d regained Claire’s trust, he’d proved he could care about someone else. He had genuine friends like Hurley, not the hangers-on from the band days.
Charlie remembers all this before Sayid breaks down the door, before he realises he is on Flight 815 again and that none of it will happen.
Terrific, he thinks.
