Avenging Angel

Title: Avenging Angel
Fandom: I Know What You Did Last Summer (TV)
Characters: Riley, Dylan. Mentions of Margot and Alison
Rating: PG
Warnings: Character death, spoilers for S1, speculation for potential S2
Summary: Riley survived, but no one else knows this. Now she'll use the fact that everyone thinks she's dead to take down everyone involved in Margot's killing spree and Alison's theft of Lennon's identity. Margot will know what it is to have everyone she loves taken from her.

She’s got no strong opinions about Lyla either way; but she had to die. It was the only way Riley could successfully get the hell out of the morgue unnoticed, allowing everyone to still think she was dead. The whole sex tape thing actually helped her with that; Riley could make it look believable to a lot of people that “Lennon”, upset about her father potentially marrying that woman, could have killed her in a fit of rage.

Riley’s gone back over everything, trying to think of times when she could have spotted that Alison had taken over as Lennon much sooner than she did start wondering. A memory comes to mind of a show she and Dylan had watched together a couple of years ago, and the twist at the end had been that this one character had taken over the identity of his identical twin, and his family hadn’t picked up the switch for years. “That’s ridiculous,” Riley had said at the time. “His family never noticed, and the only person who ever picked up on it at all was the guy who’d met his twin literally once?”

Dylan had shrugged. “It’s explained in the show how he spotted it, Riley. And how many times has Lennon pretended to be Alison to get herself out of trouble?”

“That’s with people at school who don’t know her that well,” Riley had pointed out. “And she does it for a short time and then lets it drop. I don’t think she could pull that off with Bruce for years.” They’d switched over to another show after that, and Riley had thought no more of the conversation; but now, thinking about it again, she realises that Bruce has to have known all along which of his daughters was still alive. He was family; it wasn’t possible. That thing with the earring was ridiculous; as if Alison would ever have been the twin to get that ear piercing, anyone who knew either twin well would have known that. Hell, she remembered Lennon getting it done. Bruce had obviously pulled some kind of switch so that if the question ever was raised, he could claim that Alison was the one with the piercing. He’d allowed Lyla to believe Dylan was guilty of the murders, made Dylan look crazy for exposing the twin switch; Bruce has to be next to go.

The fact that everyone had gone their separate ways for college so soon after the accident must have helped Alison pull it off, in Michigan she’d have been surrounded by people who had never met the real Lennon and so she could be whoever the hell she wanted with them. If they’d all stayed in Hawaii and seen each other every day, Riley thinks she would have figured things out a lot sooner than she did. She thinks back over all the conversations they’d all had since returning home; why had it taken her so long to realise this person she was dealing with was not the same person she’d been friends with for years? Lennon not seeming to remember her own speech from graduation day hadn’t meant much on its own; a lot had happened since then, after all, but there had been something about her that had started not to feel right.

How long had Margot known? Had she only just figured it out right before her killing spree began, or had she known for a while, bided her time, made her plans? There’s a lot Riley still doesn’t understand, even as she puts the pieces together; why had Margot not just gone to any of them, told them her suspicions that Lennon was really Alison, or even confronted Alison directly? Why had she needed to kill so many other people in order to force a confession out of her?

Mei’s got to go too; although Riley’s still trying to put together what exactly happened, she finds it hard to believe that Mei had no idea at all of what had been going on with Margot. Let Margot have her own taste of what Riley has been going through ever since finding out that Courtney was one of her victims; then just as Riley had taken Mei from her, she was then going to take Alison. Margot would have to deal with losing everyone she had cared about, just as Riley was now, and she was going to have to deal with it while in prison both for her own crimes and those committed by Riley, while Dylan’s name would be cleared.

Not long now, Dylan, Riley whispered to herself. Margot would be in prison, Alison would be gone. She was doing this for her mother, for the real Lennon, and she was doing it for Dylan.
