[sticky entry] Sticky: Fannish Housekeeping

So, for the Fannish Housekeeping prompt over at the sunshine challenge, I'm currently in the middle of updating my Dreamwidth, changed the layout to the ginger cat one and currently going through and uploading lots more icons to better reflect my fandoms (yes, Lost will always be my favourite, but I have lots of others now that weren't reflected). That's going to be a work in progress for a while I think, but gonna keep at it.

And it made me realise my old LJ introduction post was a little out of date too so rejigging here:

My name is Helen and I am 42. I live in England although the town where I live is close enough to the Welsh border that people very often think it's actually in Wales. (If you know your My Fair Lady, I'll give you a hint: hurricanes hardly happen here.) No one ever heard of it until our local celebrity (Ellie Goulding, and more recently It's A Sin's Olly Alexander. I actually know one of Ellie Goulding's relatives, but haven't admitted to her that I'm really more a fan of Olly's). However, my family are originally from the north of England (although I'm also quarter-Scottish) so I really feel that I'm from there despite growing up here. Anyone who's ever seen that BBC drama The Village - it's filmed in the village where a lot of my maternal relatives grew up. I've managed to avoid picking up the "Sam from Lord of the Rings" accent that is common here and retain my own "Merry" accent.

I'm closer to Mum's side of the family than Dad's - my parents split up when I was 10 and while my dad was around, my grandad on Mum's side was really the father figure in my life. If you know your Pretty Little Liars, if I say "Hanna", that tells you all you need to know about my relationship with my father and his side of the family. Grandad died in March 2013 and I still miss him every day. Mum is the oldest of three siblings, the middle sibling being Donald who has two children (Stuart and Sarah - I'm close to both my cousins) and Iain (sometimes called Dudley Dursley to his face due to excessive demands for Christmas and birthday presents) whose guinea pigs were the equivalent (he had 2, the obvious happened, he ended up with about 52, it's a family joke. The last one died about 7 years ago and his wife won't let him have any more!). I hardly know a lot of my relatives on Dad's side as they emigrated to Australia about a month before I was born and I haven't met them too many times. We don't have much of a relationship beyond the occasional comment on Facebook which has me questioning if they even read what I said in the first place. If someone asked me ever about my cousins, I'd immediately talk about Stuart and Sarah, but probably not those in Australia. (And I realise that this intro post is really old because it didn't mention the nephews and nieces, Isabella, Fraser, Isla and Angus, or Freddie the bulldog).

I studied English literature at St Andrews from 2000 to 2004. I've been asked this question so many times that I ended up giving people a spiel just to prevent it - no, I didn't know Prince William, who was in the year below me. I did, however, manage to walk past him in the street without realising until my ex's friend shrieked it in my ear. 20 years on, I've still never lived that one down. I get asked a lot less about Kate, and the answer is that I didn't knowingly meet her although if I'd come across her long enough ago that she wasn't well known yet then I wouldn't remember necessarily. I'm sure I've heard it said that you spend the second half of your first year at university avoiding everyone you met in the first half - anyone who knows where it comes from, remind me as I can't remember? I spent my third year avoiding everyone I met in second year (well, with two exceptions) - I always did do things behind the times. But the friends I made in other years are friends for life.

In fact, once you're friends with me, that's usually the case. I am always loyal as a friend and will always try and make sure I keep in touch as much as I can. If anything, there have been times when I really should have walked away but tried to hard to resurrect a friendship that wasn't going anywhere - some of you know that I recently spent three years going back and forwards on this issue with one person before finally realising it wasn't going anywhere and wasn't doing me any good to hang on to it. This has been more difficult an issue for me in the last few years - in October 2012 a friend of mine died very suddenly in an accident and the fact that we hadn't spoken in a while before he died haunted me a lot at the time, and recently I realised it still does to some extent. A few days afterwards I'd seen some article in a newspaper where some guy had been angsting about what his last words with his father would be and he'd come to the conclusion that too much emphasis is placed on last words by society and it's all the other memories that really matter. At the time, I thought it might be my friend's way of letting me know he'd forgiven me. Some of you won't believe that, and that's okay. Sometimes I'm not too sure myself, but it was the only thing that helped me forgive myself at the time and I'd rather have the possibility that it was than the certainty that it wasn't. But anyway, after that I vowed never to lose touch with anyone again. Lately, I've wondered if I was too hard on myself back then. But I still don't cut anyone out of my life unless something serious has happened or it's been a whole accumulation of things that build up to the point where I can't take any more. So if I remove any of you without you removing me first, it isn't deliberate. (I did have this problem a few years ago which LJ insisted I was doing myself, but it hasn't happened for ages now, fingers crossed.)

I have deleted the paragraph about my work totally because at the time of writing the original I had recently been restructured into a different team and had talked about how the move was so much better for me. How little did I know. Although to be fair, that was written in 2014. The woman who was my manager at that time has recently resigned following an investigation after she was reported for bullying, which was justified - I called her Professor Umbridge because her management skills reminded me very much of this Harry Potter character. (To continue the analogy, my and Umbridge's previous manager had "Cornelius Fudge burying head in the sand" tendencies, and I have often wondered if Umbridge was trying so hard not to be Fudge that she went too far in the opposite direction and didn't understand that that in itself was a mistake.) Things went downhill with Umbridge after an argument she had with our grand-boss, which I don't know the whole story of apart from a second hand version of Umbridge's rants about it, but that happened in 2015, a year after that intro post, so at the time of writing she wasn't as bad. Turnover at that job got so bad I used to refer to it as the Defence Against the Dark Arts job (Voldemort was the safer Harry Potter character to blame that on!) About to start working with yet another manager, still very early days and hoping not to get another Harry Potter villain. I'm realising now how much shit I normalised even though it really wasn't, and taking the time to adjust. As for my actual work it involves coordinating Personal Education Plans for children in care, dealing with reports for children with additional needs, some finance work, arranging and minuting meetings, processing nursery funding applications.

Fandoms I am or have been active in are Lost, Fringe, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Revenge, Doctor Who, Orphan Black, Harry Potter, Being Human UK, Once Upon A Time, The Hunger Games, iZombie, Arrow, Game of Thrones, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Shadowhunters, Teen Wolf, Scream, How To Get Away With Murder, The Originals, Heroes Reborn, Supernatural, Riverdale, Slasher, American Horror Story, Dead of Summer, Gotham, Shadowhunters, Legacies, Supergirl, Smallville, Merlin, Harper's Island, It's A Sin, Cruel Summer, Elite, Superman and Lois, Batwoman, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Manifest, One Of Us Is Lying, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The A List, The Wilds, Yellowjackets, Dark, School Spirits, 1899, FROM, All American, Red Rose and I have a long list to check out. Those where I haven't been very active beyond making the odd icon are Torchwood, Castle, Lord of the Rings, Lucifer, Buffy and Angel, but I am always up for being more active. Those who know me well will know that I will try writing just about any character once and very often find it more interesting to write about those who are overlooked. Sometimes I've wondered why I choose to do this and questioned whether anyone really cares about such characters, but sometimes I've been surprised by the responses I've had to fics about, for example, Byron Montgomery or Sneezy the dwarf (both real examples).

My favourite authors are Riley Sager, John Marrs, Ruth Ware, Catherine Ryan Howard, JD Robb.

I am morally opposed to Brexit. Having said that, politics aren't a deal breaker for me (if you put my whole family in a room, it would cover the entire spectrum, so if I cut off anyone I disagreed with, I wouldn't have much family interaction). I'm willing to agree to disagree, and there's always something else to talk about anyway.

I love cats, especially gingers.

I am open to any friend requests - just add me and I'll add you back.

Comments on fic are always welcome, even if it's a really old fic (but if it's just to say something like "I hate Character X and I'm glad they're dead" heads up that I don't engage with those). I also give permission to create any work inspired by/based on mine, just as long as you let me know. Icons are all shareable. Requests for fic/icons will be considered although I'm more likely to do something with it if we've interacted prior to this (as long as you're not the Arrowverse troll from 2019 who left rude comments to anyone who didn't do theirs, in which case you can jog on because I wouldn't do one for you on principle.)

My other contact details are as below. People are welcome to add me anywhere as long as you let me know who you are (let's just say there was a snooping situation at Exjob which left me a bit paranoid about who's reading what I post and even though I already did the friends only thing before I even started Exjob and met aforementioned snoop, it just made me more determined to do so).

Challenge #1

The Icebreaker Challenge: Introduce yourself. Tell us why you're doing the challenge, and what you hope to gain from it.

Well, pretty much nothing has changed from my original introduction post, so that's here:

https://tellshannon815.dreamwidth.org/10100.html

Fandom wise, my three all time ultimate favourites are Lost, Dark and From, followed very closely by Yellowjackets and School Spirits, then Fringe, The Wilds, The Way Home, Doctor Who, The Hunger Games. Older favourites include Vampire Diaries-verse, Pretty Little Liars-verse, Once Upon a Time-verse, Arrowverse, Game of Thrones-verse, Supernatural. Riley Sager and John Marrs are my favourite authors.

Hoping to get the chance to discuss fandom and get to meet more people, also to cheer up the usual gloomy January.

Rules: How many letters of the alphabet have you used for [starting] a fic title? One fic per line, ‘A’ and 'The’ do not count for 'a’ and ’t’. Post your score out of 26 at the end, along with your total fic count.

A — And The World Has Changed So Much Since You've Been Gone (Yellowjackets, Jeff. I really want to see this in canon)
B — Be Devil May Care, Fulfil Your Dream (The Way Home. My newest show)
C — Caught Somewhere In Time (Dark. This is the one I've been agonising over for ages because it's taking me towards an ending I started this trying to avoid. Moral of the story is to never mess with a timeline as complicated as Dark's.)
D — Dominic Cummings's Leaving Present (Real cat fiction, Larry the Cat. These got me through lockdowns)
E — Everything That's Broke, Leave It to The Breeze (Sweet Valley High, Bruce/Amy. Because this loose end needed tying up)
F — Five People Sawyer Visited Off-Island In The 1970s (Lost. Because obviously he would have.)
G — Got A Secret, Can You Keep It (Control Z)
H — Heavenly Hosts Sing Alleluia (Doctor Who. A sequel to Voyage of the Damned)
I — In Violet's Place (Light as a Feather. I'm actually revisiting this for spook_me)
J — Just To Get It All Out What's In My Head (Yellowjackets, Taissa/Van)
K — Knock, Knock, Knocking On Heaven's Door (The Haunting of Hill House)
L — Loophole (Lost/From crossover. Because what better punishment for Smokey McSmokeFace than trapping him in the From town with those things?)
M — Maybe, You're Gonna Be The One That Saves Me (Being Human UK/Lost crossover. Because Mitchell and Charlie had their common ground and they needed to meet.)
N — No One Here Is Free (From, the history of Colony House, written for sunshine_revival prompt to write a house's POV)
O — Our Lives Will Change When Tomorrow Comes, Tonight Our Hearts Drown the Distant Drums (Lost, Desmond/Sayid, my ultimate OTP)
P — Please Don't Bother Trying To Find Her, She's Not There (School Spirits, Simon, a S2 prediction before it aired).
Q — Q is for Quiet (Pretty Little Liars, Bethany. Part of a series.)
R — Reverse Flashpoint (The Flash. This is the hill I will die on. Eobard should have manipulated Nora into giving Barry the cure, and Cicada could have been skipped altogether.)
S — Sing With Me The Songs We Knew (Hunger Games-verse, Haymitch)
T — The Thunder Cracks, And The Sea Is Rolling (The Wilds. Because the Twilight of Adam group deserve some love.)
U — Uncomfortably Numb (Lost, Locke)
V — V is for Vengeance (Pretty Little Liars, Charlotte).
W — Will The World Remember You When You Fall, Could It Be Your Death Means Nothing At All? (Hunger Games, Chaff and Haymitch the night before the Quarter Quell. A personal favourite)
X — X is for X-ray (Pretty Little Liars, Wren. From what I remember, it did take me a while to come up with an X at the time.)
Y — You're Brand New, The Power of Death Couldn't Hold You (School Spirits, Maddie)
Z — Zelena Street (Once Upon a Time, Zelena. Inspired by a real trip to Bratislava)

So, I managed it. Having said that, back in 2014 I did set out to write an alphabet series (titles in the same format as Sue Grafton's alphabet series, which I've read most of and planning to finish over the next few weeks). She didn't end up making it to Z, I did. So I did end up using that series for three letters (I was a bit surprised that one of them ended up being V because I didn't think that was obscure. I think I need to go back to cross posting my old Lost fics to AO3 where they'll be easier to find, I still have a lot that haven't been done.)

Quite a few of these are from the Ultimate Top Five (Lost, Dark, From, Yellowjackets and School Spirits) but some from others as well.

1. Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

https://archiveofourown.org/works/963730 Probably this one about Chaff and Haymitch the last night before the Quarter Quell.

2. What are your top three most commonly used tags on AO3?

Time Travel, Alternate Universe are my most used ones

3. What’s something you learned while researching a fic?

Who came second in the World Series in 2004 (not something I'd usually follow, but there's a specific Lost reference around who won, and it came up in a fic). Also some German Christmas traditions.

4. Is there a character or ship you’d love to write for, but haven’t yet?

For the benefit of those who haven't known me that long (if you've known me a while, you may well know) I will seriously try anyone once, in fact I do try to write as many characters as I can, especially the ones who don't get much attention (focusing on the same old characters has been my pet peeve for years). I'd like to do Claire from School Spirits, spend a bit more time with the Doppler family on Dark, Yellowjackets Lottie, Akilah and Mari.

5. What makes a fic ‘successful’ in your opinion?

When I'm happy with what I've ended up with.

6. What makes you happiest? New fic comments, kudos, bookmarks, user subscribers, story subscribers, or Tumblr asks?

Just generally getting good feedback. That was something that had made me particularly happy on an old Vampire Diaries fic for an exchange back in 2012 which I didn't think was any good due to family stuff going on at the time but I'd stubbornly refused to default.

7. Does anyone you know in real life know you write fanfiction?

No, and at this point I don't think I'm ready to change that. Let's just say I have this one relative who loves to get a reaction (things like spending half of Boxing Day Googling my ex from university, banging on about my cousin allegedly crying about the lack of crocodiles in Crocodile Dundee although the jury's still out on whether that really happened, spamming everyone he knows with right wing memes on Whatsapp, and he doesn't know when to shut up) - if he ever saw anything I'd written, he'd be reading it out to get a big laugh at the Christmas dinner table, probably 20 years on.

8. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

I never have so far.

9. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

It's a rewrite of School Spirits Season 2, where Mr Martin chooses Emilio to possess instead and how that ends up impacting on Charley and Yuri.

10. Do you ever prep your fics with outlines or warmups before you start writing, or do you just dive right in?

I tend to dive right in. Sometimes I wonder if I should do an outline, but sometimes I find it gets away from anything I had in my head. Saying that, I have tried to work out something for the above School Spirits plot (don't want to get to the point of my Dark series where I was a few chapters in and then realised I hadn't factored in Noah).

11. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

It can be a few minor edits.

12. A character you enjoy making suffer.

I can't say I "enjoy" making any suffer per se, but for me it's not always avoidable. If I actively dislike the character, I just don't write them.

13. A character you want to protect.

Dark's Mikkel Nielsen. Unfortunately, given the timeline, this isn't the easiest.

14. What is your favorite fic to get comments/messages on?

Pretty much any, although I still dread it a bit on the one that got thoroughly trolled in 2019 by what I now know was a known troll.

15. What fic took you the longest to write?

I keep saying I will finish this Lost fic, although I haven't touched it since 2010. Basically the idea was that instead of ending up in 2007 when the Ajira flight crashed, Sun ended up joining her friends in 1977 and was reunited with Jin in the DHARMA Initiative. I got as far as where Ben is shot, and then canon decided to kill off Sun and Jin. (Yes, Smokey McSmokeFace, you are still dead to me.) After having lost heart to continue it at the time, I keep saying I'll go back to it. After that it's probably Caught Somewhere In Time, which I'm about half way through the last chapter of after having started towards the end of 2023. Note to self: trying to change the already complicated timeline on Dark may not be the best idea in the world...

Challenge #7

The Ferris Wheel
Journaling: Life in fandom goes through ups and downs. Reminisce about the "wild ride" of your time in fandom or in other online communities.
Creative: Create an image or a photo with the theme "let's go for a ride".

If you've known me a while, you probably know a lot of this, so you can feel free to skip. But for those who haven't, here's a long boring waffle. I was first aware of the existence of fandom round about 2002, when I was in my second year at St Andrews and my then-boyfriend had some friends who were active in the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fandoms. I wasn't really active at that point, especially once I went no contact with this friendship group (this was an "ex kept the friends" situation) and if anything I avoided it a bit so as not to bump into The Piss Artist Formerly Known as Xander (one of my ex's friends posted her fics under that name and went along with it for ages when people assumed Xander was her real name, then started a relationship with this woman in Australia letting her think she was this Xander dude as well)...yeah, there were reasons I remained no contact with that lot.

Flash forward to a couple of years after my graduation, at which point I started getting into Lost, which is the first fandom I was really active in, and is still my top one. (I'll get to my all time top five later, the other four are more recent.) I found myself wanting to expand on the backstories, especially for those characters where canon barely touched them. If you've known me a while, you probably know my "I Think This Flashback's Mostly Filler" pet peeve where it's always bugged me when too much focus is placed on the same old characters while others are pushed aside (yes, Jack's tattoos, I'm looking at you, although Once Upon a Time did flog Regina vs Snow to death a bit as well. I've had this pet peeve since I was about 13, was reading this series about a group of teens on an island off the coast of Maine, and got seriously annoyed at the amount of focus on this one character who I grew to find really irritating). And I wanted to correct certain canon cockups, such as certain character deaths. So that was how I started out in fandom.

Over time, I was active in more fandoms, Fringe, Doctor Who, Vampire Diaries-verse, Arrowverse, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, How To Get Away with Murder, Roswell New Mexico, Riverdale-verse, Lucifer, Buffyverse, Harper's Island, Cruel Summer, The Wilds, Hunger Games, Pretty Little Liars, Teen Wolf, iZombie, Game of Thrones-verse. At this point in time, my ultimate top five are Lost, Dark, From, Yellowjackets and School Spirits (the last four being shows I got into in the last couple of years, but the ones I'm most active in right now.)

I've had my peaks and my troughs - 2013 is what I refer to as the zombie year after having basically gone through it on autopilot (bit of context for anyone who doesn't know, since Dad wasn't in my life as much after about the early 1990s, my grandad effectively took over as my father figure, and that was the year he died after a short illness), while 2019 was the year I briefly lost confidence after getting trolled. I now know this troll was someone calling themself 0 who was trolling lots of people in the Arrowverse fandom at the time, asking for very specific requests and then leaving repeated rude comments and "corrections" for anyone who didn't write them. (Corrections in inverted commas because for me, what 0 was trying to correct weren't mistakes - a character changing her name in an alternate timeline that was going to be fully explained in a later chapter, a character's reaction to something that was written and posted before that character found out about it in canon so I didn't have that to work with, but the troll was reading after it aired, did have that context, didn't spot that date and decided I was wrong - but if I was being more generous to 0 than I really felt, I could see how they wrongly assumed they were mistakes. Apart from the other one which was just a difference of opinion rather than anything being wrong in the first place.) And 2020 is pretty self explanatory.

Challenge #6

Journaling prompt: What games do you play, if any? Are you a solo-gamer or do you view games as a social activity?
Creative prompt: Write a story/fic around the theme "game night".

I would tend to think of family occasions here, such as the Christmas just gone where a lot of time was spent playing card games (and trying to figure out why, exactly, someone had scrawled all the Cluedo names over the playing cards. That was eventually traced back to my cousin's soon to be ex husband, although no one ever did remember why he'd done it). It's inevitable that it ends up in laughter when someone muddles the rules (see: my cousin's attempts to teach Mum Exploding Kittens, or the accusations of reneging at cards which my grandad renamed "running the egg" back in the 70s and it's stuck as a family expression ever since).

And here's a Dark drabble:

When Ines presents Mikkel with a 1980s computer, Mikkel finds himself thinking back to the times he’d sneak in when Magnus had his game nights with Jonas and Bartosz. One time when Magnus had refused to let him play, Mikkel had pulled the plug, and Bartosz got pretty angry at him because he’d been winning. Jonas had been nice about it, though, and had offered to teach him some of the basics so that one day, Mikkel would be able to join in with them.

Now he’s stuck in 1986, Mikkel thinks of the game night he now won’t experience.

If you’ve written fics for more than one year on AO3, go to your statistics page. Click on the different years at the top to see the categories of statistics for each year.

1. Which year did you write the most words? Do you know why? e.g. you had more time; you were caught up in an exciting new fandom or pairing; you got a rush of ideas etc.
Apparently 2023. That was the year I got into three of my top five fandoms of all time (Dark, From and School Spirits - there was also a new season of Yellowjackets, another of the top five, so I think those would have given me inspiration). Having said that, this was the year I started the epic Dark series which I'm only now coming close to finishing, and AO3 has carried that word count over to 2025 because the most recent chapter of that was posted this year.

2. Which year did you write the least words? Why was this? e.g. lack of time, too busy, no inspiration etc.
Technically it's telling me 2012, but I don't know if I should count that because I only joined AO3 that October so would have the least words for that reason. Out of the full years, it appears to be 2020, with 2021 following. That time period is pretty self explanatory, with a combination of lots of my shows being on ice for the pandemic and therefore not providing as much inspiration, but also I was not in a good headspace during that time due to the lockdowns and not seeing any family for over a year (for anyone who doesn't know this, my extended family is rather scattered across the UK)

3. Which years did you get most hits, kudos, bookmarks and fic subscriptions? Do you know why? (e.g. popular fandoms, lots of words written.) Are there years where you have the same amount of bookmarks and subscriptions?
2015 for hits, 2017 for subscriptions and that has just reminded me of another series I need to finish. Will someone please stop me from starting series? 2023 for bookmarks (blame that one on School Spirits.) 2015 just beats 2023 for kudos.

4. Which years did you get least hits, kudos, bookmarks and fic subscriptions? Do you know why? (e.g. niche fandoms, not many fics written.) Do you have any other conclusions?
2019, looks like quite a few niche fandoms that year.

Fun House
Journaling: What is making you smile these days? Create a top 10 list of anything you want to talk about.
Creative: Write from the perspective of a house or other location.

There is one house I can think of that must have seen a lot over the years, would have stories to tell if it could, and that is Colony House in the TV show From.

Title: No One Here Is Free
Fandom: From
Characters: Colony House, Jasmine, Smiley, Old Lady Creature, Donna, Victor, Ellis, Fatima, Jade, Boyd, Nicki, Acosta, Kevin, Clara
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Spoilers all through S3, mentions of character deaths
Summary: Colony House was originally a family home.

Challenge #2

Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.
Creative: Write a love poem to anyone or anything you like

Well, I'm an August bank holiday baby (even if Mum says I shouldn't say that since I wasn't technically born on the bank holiday, but eh, close enough), so I always had my birthday in the summer holidays rather than having to spend it at school (which I later found out I would have had to have done had I gone to school in Scotland rather than England, where the holiday dates are different).

But what I would mostly say for summer memories is spending time with family (bit of context for anyone who hasn't known me very long or doesn't know me at all, my family is pretty much scattered across the UK) so the summer holiday was always the chance to spend time with people I didn't see enough of.

Challenge #1

Journaling Prompt: Light up your journal with activity this month. Talk about your goals for July or for the second half of 2025.
Creative Prompt: Shine a light on your own creativity. Create anything you want (an image, an icon, a story, a poem, or a craft) and share it with your community.

For me I think it's going to be easier to set myself some goals for the second half of the year, rather than focusing on July, bearing in mind that my July involves two trips during which I'll be less online. So, I'll start with finally finishing that Dark series that I started at the tail end of 2023 and then got stuck on because I keep being drawn back to the conclusion that I wanted to avoid (brief spoiler-lite context: once I had more of an understanding of the timelines of this show, I understood that giving this character his happy ending just wasn't possible). I also would quite like to do something with a School Spirits plot bunny that could turn into a series (bit complicated to explain if you didn't watch season 2). And I also keep saying I'll go back to Lost's "Sun went back to 1977" series which I haven't touched since 2010 (Smokey McSmokeFace, that one's on you. Well, technically the writers, for going in the direction that I was not okay with.)

I'm getting the to-watch list down a bit, but still going to keep that one (I find that easier when I'm properly able to focus, meaning NOT in the middle of a heatwave which for some reason seemed to hit me harder the last two days even more so than 2022 did and left me not feeling like doing anything much. In that state, I can handle old favourites I'm familiar with, but not so good with something fairly new to me.

Ever since Isabella and Isla presented me with a Make Your Own Luna Lovegood crochet kit for Christmas (and that was 2022, so it's been a while) and I didn't like to admit that I'm clueless about it, I've thought I should get round to starting. Maybe this will be the year I get round to it.

I may not do both prompts all the way through, but here's a creative response:

Title: But I Still Need Love 'Cause I'm Just A Man
Fandom: School Spirits
Characters: Wally
Pairing: Wally/Maddie
Rating: PG
Warnings: Spoilers all the way through Season 2
Summary: Wally knows he couldn't expect Maddie to stay with him; he envisions how she could have ended up resenting him if she'd chosen to remain a ghost to be with him, but also can't regret that he's spoken up about what he wants for once.
