Even as he dials the number, which he still remembers after so many years, part of him feels like he shouldn’t, yet at the same time he knows one phone call won’t change anything, that he just has to hear her voice again for one more time.

Mary Ford picks up the phone, says “Hello?” a few times before hanging up, muttering something about idiots who didn’t say anything when they got the wrong number, and Sawyer holds on to the callbox receiver a long time after she hangs up before whispering “Goodbye, mom.”

In some ways, life had been easier for Mazikeen back in the days when she believed herself to be incapable of love, invulnerable. As Eve couldn’t or wouldn’t see what was under her nose, a part of Mazikeen wished she still felt that way, that she hadn’t opened her heart and her mind to the possibility of love, and so turning her back on her friends and turning towards Michael proved too tempting.

She and Eve are happy now, and she has Linda, and Chloe and Trixie, and Amenadiel, even Dan became a friend, and Lucifer stuck with her even after she gave him so many reasons to walk away, and Mazikeen now understands that actually, this demon can feel more than one kind of love.
