Jan. 4th, 2019 12:14 amIn your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.
I think this time I will go for the book The Fandom, by Anna Day. Basically, this group of friends are at a convention for their favourite novel The Gallows Dance (think The Hunger Games and you're on the right lines) and end up being pulled into the story canon. It's revealed at the end that this was done by the villain, President Stoneback, who had wanted a change to the story so that the villains got their happy ending, so he had decided to pull in the fanfic writer "AnimeAlice" to see if she could be persuaded to write something in their favour. And it was something I could relate to. If you knew me at all in the Lost fandom days, you will know that I always loved to flesh out the Others, never saw them as full on villains and thought they had a lot of story to tell. Ben Linus could have recruited me to write some pro-Others fic, and I would have worked for him.
The sequel due out later this year will apparently feature "a rogue fanfic writer". I think I will like this character. (Quite frankly, Willow the male lead in the novel was such a prat, and Anna Day herself confirmed that he will always be a prat, that the villain centric ideas could only be better).
Another is a scene from Supergirl when Winn and Lyra are newly together, and much as I'm a Winn/Cisco shipper, there was this one line where James congratulates Lyra on her ability to speak fluent Winn, and I immediately knew what he was talking about because that sums up my relationship too.
