Some random dude on this show Mum's watching is talking about docking a ship in Guam, and I find myself waiting for someone to say "We're not going to Guam, are we?" as per Lost.
As for the purpose of the post:
Yeah, so I kinda let time go by between these updates, so here's an overdue one.
Female author: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/84279594-the-only-survivors So as you probably all know I'm a big Yellowjackets fan, so the description of teens getting into an accident, not telling the whole story and then living with it years on immediately made me think of that...then I was seeing reviews saying it sucked. I actually really enjoyed reading this though.
Banned book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35818578-annie-on-my-mind One I found while looking for something from the year I was born, enjoyed the relationship between Liza and Annie. Sad to see Isabelle and Katherine forced out of their teaching jobs once outed.
Crime or mystery: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61068307-auld-acquaintance - Obviously inspired by And Then There Were None, any time anyone talked about the circumstances of being invited to the island I just kept waiting for old U N Owen to show up.
Romance plot or sub plot: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60544449-never-ever-getting-back-together The whole concept of the reality show of everyone competing to get back with their ex was kind of obnoxious, and I think I agree with those on Goodreads who say Perrie and Isaac are the most likeable of the lot, but still enjoyable read
And from the substitutions:
Horror/Paranormal: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/75391724-the-midnight-game - I need a sequel! The way it was left open at the end has lots of possibilities - there is a flash round over at
bethefirst in September so I may end up pursuing that. I also wondered how I'd managed not to be aware of the Midnight Man game before reading this - I'm currently in the middle of something else that deals with the same game, so it's obviously better known than I realised.
Seasonal read: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60847110-happy-new-year - Swedish mystery about two families, the daughter of one disappearing following a New Year party, lots of twists.
YA/Children's: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/147762768-every-word-a-lie - I usually enjoy Sue Wallman's and this was no exception although I still think last year's was my favourite of hers.
Set in your state/country: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12878667-the-red-house Set in Hay on Wye, which is quite near me so I did like seeing all the familiar names of shops, although it was written long enough ago that a lot of said shops, like the teddy bear shop and "Phil the Fruit" have now gone, and I don't even remember The Shop of Crap. Some of the family members were definitely more sympathetic than others.
