So I decided to branch out into Smallville, which I am catching up on and now almost finished:

To say that Lois was surprised to receive the answer “Lex” when she asked Clark what he was thinking about would be an understatement.

“Lex Luthor? As in your former best friend, as in the guy who tried to kill you?”

“It was about what I said to Tess, about how I used to think Luthor blood was bad blood,” Clark explained. “I told her she was lucky that she wasn’t raised by Lionel. And seeing how the other me turned out, the one who was raised by him, the killer… I’m who I am today because of the way I was raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent. If Lionel Luthor had found me here, I could have been like Clark Luthor too. And it made me wonder about Lex, whether he could have been redeemed if he’d had parents like mine.”

“Maybe there’s another Earth out there somewhere where Lex really was somehow raised by your parents, and just think, he could have been your brother,” Lois pointed out. “Can you imagine it? Lex Kent?”

“He actually used to say that he thought of me as the closest thing he had to a brother, and I know he used to wish he had a father like mine,” Clark reminded her. “It was what he always wanted. Maybe a Lex raised by someone else would have stayed like the Lex I first became friends with, the guy who actually wanted to help other people. He wasn’t always evil, Lois, and for a long time I didn’t want to believe that there wasn’t any good in him. And it makes me wonder now whether there could have been any way of getting through to him, that Lex could have had another chance.”
