The Babysitters Club, AU, what if Jessi got the role of Peter Pan?

Jessi was Peter Pan, of course; let’s face it, she was the person at SMS with the most experience, the obvious choice, and everyone else’s lack of experience was really showing.

They weren’t even interested when she tried to tell them how they could do better, even Stacey and Dawn; Mr Cheney had reminded her a couple of times that he, not Jessi, was directing, and at one point Kristy had even defended Cokie Mason, saying that while she didn’t like her either, Jessi had been too harsh in her criticism of her!

It was seeing Jackie Rodowsky burst into tears when she’d yelled at him for forgetting his lines that had brought her back to her senses; she may have been playing Peter Pan, but that was the moment when Jessi Ramsey grew up.

any, any, "Those who hunt monsters should take care, lest they thereby become monsters themselves; for if you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss also stares into you." (From, Boyd)

Boyd understood now that maybe it would have been a better plan if he’d had a conversation with Randall about whether he’d ever noticed the creatures had any routines before trying to watch them from the bus and plan to tackle them himself; he regretted in the moment that he’d been prepared to sacrifice Randall to them in the moment even if he did think it was the only way he could get Tabitha, Jim and Henry to safety; he looked at the scars on Randall’s face and knew he bore responsibility, yet still he knew he had to continue.

He looked at Elgin, missing an eye, heard Sara’s explanation that she’d had to do it to find out where he’d hidden Fatima, that she felt it had to be her rather than him because she couldn’t let the town take his soul the way it had taken hers, and even then Boyd felt he had to continue.

After witnessing the rebirth of that smiley creature he’d already killed once, determined to find some way of taking him out again, he began to lose his way; Ellis confronted him once more, told him he’d become obsessed with those things, that he and Fatima needed him right now, the whole town needed him, it was starting to feel like the leadup to Abby’s death all over again, the old Boyd would never have sanctioned what happened to Elgin or Randall, and Boyd wondered if the town had already taken his soul after all.

Any, any, I will fall in love with you / Over and over again (From, Jade/Tabitha)

Jade remembered his previous life as Christopher, how he’d spent time with Miranda and her kids, trying to make them all laugh, how he’d found himself developing feelings for Miranda, but Miranda still talked of her hopes that once they had saved the children, she could return home to Henry.

He remembered a life where he’d become trapped in the town attempting to return to his wife from the American Civil War, only to fall for someone else, someone he now knew to be a former incarnation of Tabitha; he remembered the very first of their lives together, where they tried to save their daughter from the other townspeople’s determination to sacrifice the children.

Now that Jade knew who Tabitha was, he admitted to himself that he’d been falling for her all over again while they’d been trapped here, but he’d come to this realisation as Teacup had only just died; how could he raise it with her now?

any, any, that tarot card is not a warning (Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty, Ethan)

Ethan’s tried to tell himself that it was a coincidence that Luca the psychic should have pulled the death card for him right after that strange lady on the plane predicted his death at age thirty, he’s Googled the meaning of the card and found that it means change, endings and beginnings, rather than actual death.

He can just hear what Harvey would have said if he’d been able to tell that story to him; “Guys like us don’t even go for tarot readings; that tarot card is not a warning”.

Except that would have been easier to believe had Luca not quoted one of Harvey’s sayings even though he didn’t know the guy, had the lady not given him that prediction and been proved right about those other passengers (even taking into account what Leo said in brushing off the deaths of the centenarian doctors from old age because that was a reasonable prediction anyway, Kayla Halfpenny’s accident was not so easy to explain).

any / any / tomorrow is now (Dark, Jonas, Bartosz, Martha)

They’d sat and talked about possible futures for themselves, Jonas, Bartosz and Martha; Bartosz had believed that he’d take over running the power plant like his father and his grandmother before him, Martha wanted to make it big in acting and get out of Winden, Jonas changed his mind practically every week.

Sometimes they’d speculate on the kind of technology that might exist in thirty years’ time, whether that would be flying cars, or the ability to live in space, but the one thing the three of them always agreed on was that they would still be friends in the future.

As Jonas finds himself in 2052, realises that their tomorrow has become his now, takes in the destroyed city that had been Winden, his friendship with Bartosz and Martha in tatters even if he could get back to 2019, he wishes for the tomorrow that they had talked of back then.

any, any, i found your journal (Yellowjackets, Shauna, Callie)

Shauna was finally beginning to feel that things were heading back to normal as she and Jeff headed back from Natalie’s funeral; she and Jeff were back on track, Saracusa had been…handled by Misty’s new man Walter so she was no longer worried about facing charges over Adam Martin.

As for Callie, there was still some way to go, and she still wasn’t sure she was ready to share too much about her time out there after the crash, but she knew the day was approaching when she was going to have to open up a bit more.

Except when she arrived home to find Callie brandishing a battered looking old notebook, saying “Hey, Mom, I found your journal”, Shauna knew that time had come sooner than expected.

The Baby-sitters Club, Dawn /& Kristy, hard to say I'm sorry

When Kristy gets a moment alone with Dawn before Dawn leaves for California, she apologises for having told Claudia that Dawn was leaving, for having created the situation where Mary Anne found out from Logan before Dawn had chance to tell her herself.

But there’s so much else that Kristy knows she should apologise for, for all the time she spent resenting Dawn when Dawn first arrived in Stoneybrook and she and Mary Anne became best friends and later stepsisters, even the stupid stuff like goading her in their shared cabin on the Bahamas trip.

There’s so much that she wants to say, but doesn’t know how to say it, but when Dawn looks at her, Kristy thinks she understands.

Any, any, "Now I need some brain bleach!" (Larry the Cat)

Larry the Cat always knew he was the most important figure in Downing Street, not whichever fool of a housemate happened to be living there with him at the present time, but it was always nice to have it confirmed, he thought as he approached the laptop.

Googling himself, Larry purred at the sight of fan pages for him and Facebook groups in his honour, then came to a page called AO3…Boris Johnson/Liz Truss pegging, Boris Johnson/Donald Trump?

He thought he’d seen it all after the parties, but after reading that, Larry needed some brain bleach.

any, any, "I still wake up with things to tell you." (Yellowjackets, Shauna)

Whenever Shauna and Jackie would go downstairs for breakfast after their slumber parties, Shauna’s mother would always ask them how it was possible that they’d stayed up so late talking and yet still had so much to say to each other in the morning.

Shauna thought of that again every morning in the cabin when she woke up and realised Jackie was no longer next to her, yet still had so many things she wanted to say to her every day.

She’d told Taissa she’d moved on after Natalie had buried what was left of Jackie, and sure, she had to some extent, she wasn’t having imaginary conversations with Jackie any more, but that didn’t mean she didn’t wake up wanting to tell Jackie something new every day.

any, any, i'll show him that a cadillac is not a car to scorn (Sweet Valley High, Kris Lynch)

Kris Lynch had seen Todd Wilkins sniggering at his Cadillac as he’d walked past it with Peggy Abbot. Any other time, that might have bothered him, but as he watched Todd and Peggy talking, as Todd cringed when Peggy did her donkey laugh again, he thought to himself that actually, he had the upper hand. Todd wouldn’t be laughing when he was stuck with Peggy at the dance while Elizabeth Wakefield was being driven past him in Kris’s pink Cadillac.

Any, any, the start of the end of the world feels like any other day (Dark, Regina)

It had seemed like the end of the world to Regina the day she heard that Mads, her only real friend at the time, had gone missing, once again the day she had come home from a sleepover to find her grandfather dead and her mother missing, and again the day she received her cancer diagnosis. Yet on each occasion, the day had started out feeling like any other day, with no indication of what was to come.

The day of the actual Winden apocalypse had also started out like any other; she had had no idea that that would be the last time she would ever see Bartosz, that her illusions about Aleksander were to be shattered before he died, that her mother would appear again not having aged a day; Winden may have been practically destroyed in the nuclear apocalypse, yet these things destroyed Regina more.

any, any, last words (Dark, Bartosz)

Bartosz is still haunted by the last words he spoke to Regina; when he’d told her he’d be back later, he’d genuinely meant it, believed that he would return home to his mother.

Trapped in 1888 with no means of returning to 2020, he’d kept imagining Regina waiting for him, wondering why he never returned home, but felt unable to talk about it since Magnus was grieving his version of Martha, Franziska was facing never seeing her own family again either, and Jonas…well, considering that this whole situation was that asshole’s fault in the first place, he was the last person Bartosz wanted to talk to.

While he hadn’t technically lied to Regina, just been unable to keep his promise, he still felt as bad as if he had lied, and knowing what he now knows about the Winden apocalypse, he knows he won’t get the chance to make it up to her.

Any, any, sleepless nights. (Lost, Desmond/Sayid)

Sayid was awakened more than once during the first night on the freighter; Desmond was having a recurring nightmare where he was having visions of Charlie’s death, trying desperately to save him but unable to.

He could relate, flashing back to his own first nights on the island where he had his own nightmares of the death of Essam Tasir, waking and asking himself all over again what he could have done differently in order that Essam could have been saved.

By the end of their time on the freighter, the only thing that was helping Desmond to sleep undisturbed by the nightmare was having Sayid there holding him through the night, and Sayid found that this helped him too.

any, any, When Mom asks me how my day at school was, I always just say "fine" and change the subject. (13 Reasons Why, Hannah)

It was easier for Hannah to just nod, smile, say school had been fine whenever her mother asked how it had gone. Her mother had been so determined that Liberty High would be a fresh start after Ridgeview; Hannah wasn’t going to talk about how her friendship with Jessica had imploded, about Alex’s stupid list, about the names she was getting called after Bryce Walker forwarded those photos to the whole class.

Yet even as Hannah would start talking about something totally random, a part of her sometimes wished her mother would push the issue, would realise that school hadn’t been fine, would open up the conversation where Hannah could explain.

Baby Sitters Club | Richard Spier/Sharon Spier | the difficulties of blending a family when two of the children do not live there full time

Jeff’s moving back to California had been easier on Richard than Dawn’s - at that time, he hadn’t known that he and Sharon would get married; Sharon was still dating other people and Richard only really saw him on the occasions when he’d pick Sharon up for dates and Jeff happened to be home, so he hadn’t had much of a relationship with him.

Richard had been there for Sharon at the time, had tried to help her see that Jeff’s reasons for his choice weren’t about her; over time, he’d started to see that smile on her face again, but then Dawn had made her own choice to go back and live with Jack, and Richard had felt as though things were going back to square one.

Richard was trying to support Sharon with the fact that Dawn had chosen to live with her father at the same time as supporting Mary Anne with the fact that she’d found out from Logan before Dawn had had the chance to explain, and also dealing with his own sadness of saying goodbye to Dawn (even though he knew Dawn had mostly encouraged the relationship at first because of Mary Anne, over time he felt they had become close) but sometimes he sensed a kind of resentment from Sharon about the fact that his child still lived with him, while hers were on the other side of the country.

Any, any, the night before the wedding (Dark, Katharina, Ulrich, Hannah)

By this time tomorrow, Katharina Albers would be Mrs Ulrich Nielsen; she would finally escape from the life she had lived with Helene Albers and settle into the future she had been mentally planning since 1986.

As Ulrich downed his drinks, laughed at jokes with Peter and Aleksander on autopilot, he thought to himself how his brother Mads should have been there with him, organising his stag night, standing at his side the next day as best man.

Hannah’s happy with Michael and wonders if maybe he will also propose soon; she doesn’t talk now about the crush she always had on Ulrich in high school that no one else knew about anyway, but as somewhere out there Ulrich is preparing to meet Katharina at the altar, a part of her can’t help but think about what might have been.

Anyone, anyone, hello, welcome home (Yellowjackets, Shauna/Jeff)

Shauna had imagined so many times in the first few months what would happen when she saw Jeff again; initially she’d imagined she’d just fade into the background and allow Jackie to take centre stage as she always did, but then that was the way it should be at this point, Jackie was officially Jeff’s girlfriend, after all.

As time went on, Shauna wondered how she would explain to him everything that had happened with Jackie, with their baby, everything else that had happened in the wilderness (if she even attempted that; there was a lot that she didn’t think she would ever tell him, but he did need to know about Jackie and the baby), then as time went by even further, she began to think that it would never be an issue because she wouldn’t make it home after all.

The first time Shauna saw Jeff after returning to Wiskayok, she’d turned all those scenarios over in her mind again, wondering how the conversation would even begin; he’d greeted her awkwardly, saying “Uh, hello, welcome home,” and Shauna didn’t even know where to begin.

any ; any (canonically or not) queer character ; attending their first pride event (Heartstopper, Charlie)

It had been Tara’s idea for them to all go to Brighton Pride weekend, suggesting they get an Airbnb and make a weekend of it.

Darcy, Elle and Sahar had been up for it, and had persuaded Tao and Isaac; Charlie had initially been nervous about attending an event like that, thinking how it hadn’t been that long since he would have run a mile from any kind of big event, finding it easier to stick to the few close friends he had.

But he’s got a bigger group of friends with him now, and he’s got Nick, so he’s going to enjoy this weekend with his friends, with his community.

any ; any (canonically or not) queer character ; family (Heartstopper, Darcy)

It’s a relief to Darcy to have this weekend away at Pride with her friends, from having to hide who she really is from her homophobic family.

Tara’s and Elle’s family are great, Nick’s brother might be a dick and his father barely around but at least he’s always had his mother’s support, and while Charlie’s family have had their moments, at least his parents and Tori are more accepting of his sexuality than Darcy’s family.

But she looks around her at the people she’s come with, Tara, Nick, Charlie, Tao, Isaac, Elle and Sahar, knowing that she can always go to any one of them to escape if her family get too much, and Darcy thinks about how you don’t have to be blood related to be family.

Sweet Valley, Choice of Character, Walking away from everything (Regina Morrow)

Regina knows she can’t go back to her old friends; she isn’t sure which she feels worse about, Amy’s inner circle treating her and Bruce’s breakup like a spectator sport and loving the drama, or people like Liz and Jeffrey, supposedly her close friends, who’d known about Bruce and Amy all along and kept it from her.

But at the same time, Justin Belson’s friends aren’t the answer; Molly Hecht and Jan Brown aren’t people she wants anything to do with, and while she could have been friends with Justin, getting in the middle of whatever he has going on with Molly isn’t the best thing for her.

Regina had been happy back when she was still in Switzerland; maybe she should go back there, see out her original plan to stay there for several months, turn her back on Bruce, Amy and everything that had happened here.

Any, any, pretend that the search for another new world was well worth the burning of mine (From, Victor)

The town has dissolved around them; Victor is unsure where he is, some highway that could be anywhere in the USA.

Everyone around him is hugging and cheering, Jim and Jade, Kenny and Marielle, even Tian-Chen and Sara and Donna and Randall; Ethan tugs on Victor’s sleeve and says “Victor, can you believe it, we’re finally going home!”

But what was there for Victor out there, in a world where he knew no one, where he wouldn’t know how to use things like this internet that Julie and Ethan had tried to explain to him; the town had been the only home that Victor had ever really known, and in their quest to search for their own world, no one had understood how they had destroyed his.

Prompt 2: Gladiolus
Generally, gladioli represent strength of character, faithfulness, moral integrity, and remembrance. Gladioli are actually the traditional 40th-anniversary flower and the birth flower for the month of August! Each individual colour of gladiolus is also symbolic.

A Yellowjackets drabble:

“Why have the Taylors sent us a flower arrangement?” Shauna asked, frowning at the gladioli that had been delivered from Jackie’s parents. “We have flowers already, the ones from our florist from the ceremony.”

“It’s just a nice gesture, Shauna,” Jeff shrugged. “Just their way of letting us know they’re happy for us, that they accept us as a couple.”

Shauna had let it drop, trying to tell herself that he was right, that it had meant nothing more than that. But the gesture bugged her enough that eventually she looked up the meaning of gladioli – faithfulness, moral integrity, remembrance…She wasn’t sure whether the Taylors were aware of these meanings, or whether the meaning of the gift was just a coincidence (which it had to be; it wasn’t as if they knew anything for sure about what had really happened to Jackie, or that Shauna and Jeff had been cheating on her before the flight), but as Shauna looked at the flowers, it felt to her like Jackie’s parents had been trying to send her a message.

House of the Dragon, Alicent/Rhaenyra, we could have had it all

Sometimes Alicent thinks about the future that could have been theirs, Rhaenyra the Queen, Alicent by her side as consort, ruling Westeros together; unconventional, she knows, and the Council would not have approved, but they would have made it work.

Now Alicent is trapped in her marriage to Viserys, and she watches Rhaenyra with Daemon, and thinks of how their closeness is lost to them. Pawns on the chessboard of men, she faces Rhaenyra from the opposing side, knowing this was never what she wanted.

Any, any, you came back wrong (Lost, Desmond/Sayid)

Everyone had tried to tell him that there was no hope; Sayid had not been the same since the Man in Black brought him back, he may be physically there in body but was emotionally dead.

Yet Desmond saw that spark of Sayid’s old feelings for him as their eyes met once again, as Sayid knew he was unable to pull the trigger as the Man in Black had requested. In that moment, Desmond knew there was hope after all, that he would be able to get through to Sayid.

Yellowjackets, any, floating out of their minds to find something better

In those first moments before she opened her eyes every morning, Jackie tried to tell herself that this was all just a nightmare. They’d made it to the finals and won, she got to be with her family again, Jeff was still her loving boyfriend and she was going to make damn sure they got elected homecoming king and queen; hell, even Shauna Shipman was still her best friend, her ride or die.

She tried to hold on to these images for as long as she could in her mind, before facing the reality of being stuck out there in the back of beyond, of knowing of Jeff and Shauna’s betrayal, of not knowing if she would ever see her family again.

Any, any, I’ve got no name at all (Lost, Smokey McSmokeFace)

The name that woman gave him now feels wrong to his ears, even though it’s the name he’s been going by all his life. Now that he knows Claudia is his real mother, and not that woman who had stolen him and raised him, he wonders what name she would have given him had she been given the chance to.

He won’t use the name the woman masquerading as his mother called him; he will never know what Claudia would have called him; his brother may be willing to maintain the name of Jacob that that woman had given him, but he feels like he has no name at all.

House of the Dragon, Aemond Targaryen, and I've been meaning to tell you / I think your house is haunted.

Sometimes he sees Lucerys appear to him; he’s tried asking Lucerys to appear to others in their family, to explain that he had lost control of Vhagar and had never intended for Vhagar to devour Lucerys; maybe then he would be believed.

Aemond had considered trying to tell his mother himself that the house was haunted, yet what had eventually dissuaded him from this course of action was the appearance of King Viserys; having seen him, Aemond was now aware that his mother had misinterpreted his father’s last words and had never intended for Aegon to take the throne.

If Aemond spoke now, Aegon would be removed, yet such a course of action would place Aemond himself several steps further back in the line of succession; Aemond still believed that he was more suited to rule than his brother, despite being the younger of the two, and if he kept his own counsel on the matter, it would be easier for him to take over himself when the time was right.

Historical RPF, any, careful what you wish for (Anne and Mary Boleyn, Henry VIII)

Anne had dismissed Mary’s remark that she should be careful what she wished for, as negotiations went on to request that the Pope grant the King a divorce from Queen Katharine. Anne had succeeded where Mary had failed; the King had put Mary aside, while he desired that Anne should become his bride, become Queen of England, the woman who would give him a son; it was natural that Mary may not have been happy for Anne.

Now as Anne lies awake in the Tower of London, awaiting her impending execution, she understands that her sister was right after all.

Any, Any, Fuck this shit, I'm out. (Larry the Cat and the revolving door of prime ministers)

It had been a relief when that messy haired tosser finally moved out; maybe now Larry the Cat would be able to get his full nap time in without Dilyn barking, children crying, drunken Whitehall inhabitants partying, or most likely all of the above.

As for Liz Truss, Larry had spent most of his time keeping out of her way, not wanting to be around her moods as yet another of her policies got panned by her own MPs as well as the British public; he was not surprised when the Daily Star’s lettuce outlasted her.

After the third housemate in as many months, and another Tory at that, dull as Sunak was, Larry had had enough of this shit and decided he’d be happier somewhere else with one consistent housemate.

any, any, now I know your heart, I know your mind / you don’t even know you’re being unkind (Yellowjackets, Shauna, Jeff, Jackie)

Shauna knew that Jackie really believed she was doing a good thing as she made the plans for their college life, that she was excited about the future and thought that Shauna and Jeff would be just as excited as she was.

She’d seen the look on Jeff’s face once when Jackie was planning something or other, and realised that he felt the same way she did, that Jackie didn’t even know, hadn’t even tried to find out, whether any of the things she was suggesting were what Shauna or Jeff actually wanted, and that if anything Jackie seemed to be dismissing their own opinions.

In that moment, Jeff looked at Shauna, and they both knew they understood each other.
